The first semester of the senior year examines the symbolic nature of
our communal worship as well as the historical liturgical development of the
sacramental system of the Roman Catholic Church. The class attempts to connect
our ancient tradition with contemporary celebration to promote an increased
awareness and participation in the sacramental life of faith. The third quarter
of the senior year students study the theological and historical origins of the
sacrament of marriage. In an attempt to familiarize students with practical
ramifications and Church expectations regarding marriage, students also
participate in a "marriage practicum" in which "couples" are asked to plan a
wedding and prepare for the demands of married life. The fourth quarter of the
senior year deals with the relationship of the Roman Catholic Church to other
Christian denominations and world religions. Through research and class
presentations students are exposed to religious practices and beliefs which they
may encounter in college and beyond.
