Endowment

Gifts to the Endowment

Donations directed to the endowment that supports Scotus Central Catholic are supervised and controlled by a Board of Trustees selected by the pastors of the three Columbus parishes. The principal (corpus) of any donation made to the endowment is never invaded and only the annual earnings may be dispersed and in accordance with the instructions of the donor.

Some gifts to the endowment are restricted by the donor’s instructions requiring that earnings be used for a specific stated purpose. An restricted endowed fund may be established from which annual earnings support a scholarship or scholarships awarded to students attending Scotus Central Catholic. Or a fund’s earnings may be restricted to support a particular program or department at the school, i.e. English department, volleyball program, instrumental music, general scholarship fund, etc. The suggested minimum restricted donation to the endowment, with the purpose of establishing a separate fund supporting a specific purpose, is $5,000.

Other gifts to the endowment are made without restriction and the donation is co-mingled with other unrestricted funds for investment purposes. The earnings of unrestricted endowed funds are distributed by action of the endowment board and to support the Scotus general fund. Unrestricted gifts of any value can be made to the endowment.

Gifts to the endowment are accepted by action of the Board of Trustees and can take the form of cash, stocks and other securities, property, bequests, etc.
