KEYBOARDING 7
Grade 7
One Quarter
Required

Students will learn to type by the touch method using a computer keyboard. They will learn good techniques as well as skills in proofreading and applying the proofreader's marks to rough draft material. Ergonomics, Internet Safety and internal computer components will be explored along with basic computer terminology.

KEYBOARDING 8
Grade 8
One Quarter
Required

Students will learn to type by the touch method using a computer keyboard. Students will gain introductory skills to the word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software. The students will apply their skills to simple typing problems/projects. Internet terminology and skills will be studied. The students will also research and evaluate internet resources.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I
Grade 9
Full Year - 10 Credits
Required

The students will apply their skills to advanced business problems such as centered messages, letters, outlines, reports, and tables. Emphasis will be on using the computer for word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software and Desktop Publishing. Internet terminology and skills will be reviewed. Additional subject matter will include computer care and maintenance, security and privacy, and computer ethics.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II
Grade 10
One Semester - 5 Credits

Prerequisite: Computer Applications I

This course provides students with activities that are built around a business theme. Students will complete practical, realistic applications and create materials suitable for portfolio evaluation. The projects apply the skills developed in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Additionally, students will apply software and business competencies needed to succeed in the workplace, including critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, and information and resource management. Internet activities and web design are included wherever relevant so that students develop research and communication skills.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS III
Grades 11 and 12
One Semester - 5 Credits
Prerequisite: Computer Applications I & II

This is an advanced applications course designed for students to see the computer as a tool. Students will gain mastery skills in Microsoft Application in preparation for the Microsoft Certification Exams. Applications include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These exams may allow students to receive college credit for the course. Additional applications will include advanced desktop publishing and image management.
Earning a Microsoft certification acknowledges your expertise in working with Microsoft products and technologies. The information technology (IT) industry, your employer, clients, and peers will recognize your MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) credential as a symbol of the skills and knowledge you have gained through experience. Microsoft certification shows that you are a technical leader with the ability to successfully implement Microsoft business solutions for your organization or client.

DIGITAL PUBLISHING I AND II
Grades 11-12
One Semester - 5 Credits
Elective

These are a introductory courses to web page design, digital video, image management, and desktop publishing. HTML will be taught as well as fundamentals of sound web page design. Students will create web pages in addition to updating the school's web site. Students will create and edit short videos using a digital camcorder and video editing software. Portions of videos may be published. Students will work in small groups to publish the school's monthly newsletter and calendar. Attention to detail and accuracy are needed qualities for this class. Students may be required to devote extra time outside of class for individual projects. This class is limited in size.

ACCOUNTING I
Grades 10-12
Full Year - 10 Credits
Elective

Another term for accounting in bookkeeping. The difference between the two terms is simply that in accounting you learn to analyze (better understand) why you are doing certain steps. You will learn how to keep financial records for a business and can apply the knowledge to your own personal records. It will provide you with a better understanding of the financial relationship between a customer (which could be you) and a business (which could be yours). Filing personal income tax forms is also included. This is an introductory course to accounting for a service and merchandising business. The accounting cycles for a sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation are covered. Topics include: adjustments, payroll, careers, taxes, and financial statements.

ACCOUNTING II
Grades 11-12
Full Year - 10 Credits

Prerequisite: Accounting I with a "C" average or better

This course is designed for those students pursuing a career in business. A review of general accounting principles and practices will be covered with an emphasis on advanced accounting principles such as: depreciation, notes, uncollectible accounts, and cost accounting. Approximately 50% of the accounting work will be automated.

PERSONAL FINANCE I
Grades 10-12
One Semester - 5 Credits
Elective

This course is designed to introduce the student to personal finance knowledge all persons need in their personal (and professional) lives. Topics to be covered include career decisions, consumer right and responsibilities, money management, and financial security.

PERSONAL FINANCE II
Grades 10-12
One Semester - 5 Credits
Elective
Prerequisite: Personal Finance I

This course will introduce the student to general personal finance knowledge affecting their personal and professional lives. It will include financial security, federal income tax, credit management, resource management (renting/purchasing vehicle/home), and risk management (insurance).
